Carora in Venezuela VENEZUELA venezuela. carora Informations and links Carora![]() ![]() Map Carora Photos Carora Population on 21-Oct-01 : 83000 ------------------------------- Carora is a town in Lara State, Venezuela, on the Carora, a branch of the Tocuyo River. It is about 54 miles west by south of Barquisimeto. Carora was founded in 1754, and its colonial history shows considerable prosperity, its population at that time numbering 9,000 to 10,000. As of 1911, the neighboring country was devoted principally to raising horses, mules and cattle; in addition to hides and leather, it exported rubber and other forest products. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.) Venezuela was one of three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others being Colombia and Ecuador). For most of the first half of the 20th century, Venezuela was ruled by generally benevolent military strongmen, who promoted the oil industry and allowed for some social reforms. Democratically elected governments have held sway since 1959. Current concerns include: an embattled president, a divided military, drug-related conflicts along the Colombian border, increasing internal drug consumption, overdependence on the petroleum industry with its price fluctuations, and irresponsible mining operations that are endangering the rain forest and indigenous peoples..
