A road, an everlasting tie between the Middle Europe and the Orient, was connecting the town to a peaceful valley aside the road itself. Then again, a local history was greatly influenced by the Old Age ancient tribes, different cultures, provinces, empires, and states and nations bordering with the town. The roads trough the Balkan Ranges were stipulated by the ground configuration, including the mountain direction and the river-basins cutting trough the mountain and the peninsula itself, but a position of the fertile valley in these uplands of Europe, as well. The town of Pirot is situated on the most important road in the southeastern Europe.
