In period 1946-1992 city name was Svetozarevo. In 2003 the city has total population of 35,600. It is the administrative center of the Pomoravlje District of Serbia. Jagodina's mayor is Dragan Markovic 'Palma', who was earlier associated with Arkan's Party of Serbian Unity . 'Palma' was elected mayor in october 2004. Previously, the Democratic Party of Tadi? had the power in Jagodina. Jagodina was heavily attacked by the NATO-forces during the Kosovo War. The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes was formed in 1918; its name was changed to Yugoslavia in 1929.
