The town has a population of 25,703, while Be?ej municipality has 40,877 inhabitants. Local communities with a Hungarian ethnic majority are: Ba?ko Petrovo Selo (Hungarian: P?terr?ve) and Mile?evo (Hungarian: Istenf?ldje). There is one local community with a Serb ethnic majority: Radi?evi?. Two local communities: Be?ej (Hungarian: ?becse) and Ba?ko Gradi?te (Hungarian: B?csf?ldv?r) are ethnically mixed, with the largest ethnic group there being the Hungarians.
