It is located on the central north of the island and has a population of about 46. Adamstown currently holds the record for the smallest capital in the world, yet it still has access to television, internet, and telephone lines. Pitcairn Island was discovered in 1767 by the British and settled in 1790 by the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions.
