Capitan-Bermudez in Argentina ARGENTINE argentina. capitan-bermudez Informations and links Capitan-Bermudez Map Capitan-Bermudez Photos Capitan-Bermudez ------------------------------- Capitán Bermúdez is a small city in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, located within the metropolitan area of Greater Rosario, north of the city of Rosario, on the western shore of the Paraná River, within the San Lorenzo Deparment. It has a population of 27,109 inhabitants (2001 census), and an area of 12 km². The town was founded in 1889, and officially became a city in 1970. Its name is an hommage to Justo Bermúdez, a captain of the rebel forces of General José de San Martín during the Battle of San Lorenzo. The Mayor of Capitán Bermúdez as of 2005 is Fabián Varela. Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation..
