The town of Khost is the capital of Khost Province, a mountainous region near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan. During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, it was besieged for over eight years. A 'Terrorist Training Camp' was destroyed there by US cruise missiles in 1999.
