“The opposite for courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow.” – Jim Hightower
This quote was quoted to me from a pretty wise Hawaii towing company employee that helped me when I was in a rut with my car.
As we’ve mentioned, it’s easy for people to be manipulated. It’s no help not to be manipulated when we as humans naturally want to be a part of “the group”.
Generally, we being social creatures, we tend gravitate to conform to what everyone else seems to be doing and subconsciously forming a hive mind mentality.
So, it’s easy to fall into the trap of just becoming like everyone else and losing your independence and individuality.
Are you conforming?
I ask you to reflect upon yourself and really evaluate who you really are. It’s one of the key’s needed to succeed and to be you, an individual. It’s not easy to be yourself. That’s why majority of the people out there are just average working class people out there.
It’s easy to just conform to the masses. That’s why it all happens on a subliminal level. There is not much thinking needed to conform and to go with the flow. All you need to do is follow everyone else does. Here’s an example of how easily people succumb to conformity:
If a group jumps off a bridge, will you jump too?
Rhetorical question right? But what if I ask, “If everyone goes to school, get a job when you grow up, and work the rest of your life, will you do it too?”
Hmm, conformity? Think about it…
